W Hotels told The New Yorker that its audience did not match theirs. Meanwhile, while sitting in the lobby of a W Hotel, I noticed that the shelves were filled with books by New Yorker writers and artists. We called this to their attention with a "dossier" complete with spy photos and the books in evidence bags. 

We got the meeting...and eventually the business.
